Systems Approach

Systems Approach

One of my main areas of training while I was still a student was family systems therapy. I largely identify with this approach and therefore love working with different systems, such as couples and families. Myself having grown up in a blended family and now being in one as an adult, I believe I offer an informed and unique perspective to the various ways the modern family structure can look today and further, provide families support and intervention approaches uniquely tailored to their needs.

Oftentimes, families will present with one identified member as the one with the “problem”.  More often than not, it is that person who is carrying the burden of the entire System- in this case, the family- which has yet to deal with some larger, underlying issue. This is where I come in.  After an initial fact-gathering mission, I am able to intervene and shine some light on what may feel like incredibly dark issues. With willing participants (that’s you and the other members of your system), we can TOGETHER increase insight, develop healthier coping skills, improve communication among members, and improve overall well-being for ALL- not just the one member likely presenting with the “identified problem”.

I firmly believe that no expert in the world can understand your family better than you can. You are the expert on your unique SYSTEM. I merely work with you and your members to improve the overall functioning by helping each of you find your voice, learn to express it, all the while listening intently to those around you.
